Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose handmade organic soap?
It’s simple. The ingredients! Always remember that your skin will absorb what you put on it. If it is safe to eat, it is safe to put on your skin. Conventional soaps sold in stores are often laced with chemical detergents, hardeners and synthetic lathering agents that strip the skin of moisture and oil, thereby creating dry or irritating skin. Moreover, the glycerin in conventional soap is often denatured during the manufacturing process. Whereas handmade soaps retain all the natural glycerin that helps to attract and retain moisture in the skin.
What do you mean when you say that your soaps are all natural?
The main differences between our handmade natural soaps and factory manufactured soaps are that the nourishing ingredients used in making our soaps are safe, nontoxic, and biodegradable. Our handmade soaps are cold pressed and cured gradually for an extended period without heat, thereby retaining the genuine nature of the skin nurturing ingredients. In addition, they are free of artificial colors, fragrances, hardeners, lathers, preservatives, detergents, and alcohols, commonly found in manufactured soaps.
Do your soaps contain essential oils or fragrance oils?
We use only natural essential oils in our soaps and not synthetic fragrance oils. Essential oils are derived from plants while fragrance oils are blended with synthetic compounds or a mix of essential oils that may have been diluted with a carrier. Since essential oils are natural, they lack preservatives. Consequently, the scent fades over time because they are not as processed as fragrance oils.
I have a sensitive skin and can’t use most soaps. Will I be able to use yours?
Yes, our soaps are incredibly gentle and contain small amounts of essential oils to sooth sensitive skins. For hypersensitive skin, we suggest using our unscented calming bar soaps with avocado and sweet almond oils.
Can I use your soap on my face?
Yes! Our soaps are formulated for both face and body. However, your face is generally more sensitive than your body, therefore, essential oils, butters and/or plant oils that may work well on your body could be irritating on your face. When using our soaps on your face, we advise wetting the soap, and your hand and face first, before using the lather to gently cleanse your face.
Are your soaps vegan?
Yes, they are 100% vegan except our goat milk bar soap.
Do you use lye when making your soap?
Yes. It is virtually impossible to make real soap without using lye. However, lye does not remain in our finished products after the soap making process. Through the process of saponification, the lye bonds with the oils in the recipe and becomes soap and glycerin in line with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) statement concerning saponified organic oils. The statement confirms that following saponification, handmade soaps have no detectable alkali, as the oils have been converted to soap and glycerin. Therefore, they are truly safe and non-toxic.
What is the shelf-life of your soap?
Our handmade soaps will last a long time if kept in a suitable environment, perhaps as long as four years. Since the scent fades over time, we recommend using the soap within a reasonable period.
